World Machine to 3ds Max Test - Output 3


This was a test in 3ds Max to determine whether using a plugin for terrain creation/rendering was worth it. I output a DEM from World Machine, then tested it first as a displacement map on a plane in 3ds Max, and second as an elevation map in Vue xStream (the afore mentioned plugin). The highest I could bump up the displacement plane was 2 million faces. This was a resource hog on my computer, and yet it still couldn't reach the level of detail that Vue xStream could reach. Vue rendered every single pixel of the DEM, showing the need for a higher resolution DEM, and didn't slow down my computer.
