3D Modeling
A field within art and design with the potential to let you see your work come to life is 3D Modeling. I've always enjoyed modeling because it enables me to create art that people can explore.
Modeling for Art
I've used 3ds Max for most of my modeling. But other tools I've used include: Unreal Engine, Marvelous Designer, Daz Studio, Zbrush, Blender, Cinema 4D, MOI 3D, and Home Designer.
Product Design
For designing physical products, you'll want to do some research to find the best tool for what you're making. Good starting points I have a positive impression of include: Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Zbrush, CLO3D, and Chief Architect.

Procedural Generation
To create the massive scenes and effects you see in movies, rather than modeling everything individually, professionals use tools, scripting, and/or math to make software generate everything procedurally.
Top Tools to Learn
Houdini is the big rockstar in the visual effects world, but it's a huge challenge to learn. If you are willing to put in the effort, I absolutely recommend it. Studios also use Thinking Particles and Unreal Engine.
Fluid Simulation
The way to add realistic water and smoke in your scene is fluid simulation. Top tools are Houdini, Thinking Particles, FumeFX, and RealFlow (which I enjoy). I've also used Phoenix FD.
